How the Construction Industry Works:
Many different organizations work together to build a construction project. Employers expect aspirants, trainees and graduates to understand how the project will be structured
The construction project starts with the client Who decides that something should be built?
A client can be a property development company, local authority, a major government department, a private business or an individual. The client decides what they want to build, when it should be built and how much it will cost
The client then hired counselors
Who will advise you on matters relating to design, costs and any regulations. The client can use multiple consulting businesses to advise each other on everything. Either way, one consultant organization will oversee the project on behalf of the client.
Common advisory organizations include:
Architectural practices, Consultation costs, builders, mechanics and electricians. The consultants, then, look at the implementation phase of the project – they design the building and calculate how much the project will cost to build. Once this is established, they decide which construction contractor should do the construction work. Contractors should ‘bid’ for the job.
What is it like to work for an advisor?
If you work in consultation, your work will be in the design phase. The designers designed the project. Greenfield engineers guarantee that the technical details of the systems will work and that most analysts will estimate how much the project will cost. You work in an office. You work office hours (usually 8.30 am – 6.00 pm) but you may have to work long hours close to the time limit. As you are working on a project in its first phase, it may take years before you see a completed project in operation. The consultant finds contractors who will do the construction work Once the contractor has won the job, construction begins on site.
Contractors ensure that the project is built on agreed quality, budget and timeliness. They take instructions on a project from a project consultation and then work on design related issues that have passed.
